EIU鈥檚 dedication to the arts is unmatched. Our remarkable Doudna Fine Arts Center is a state-of-the-art facility that provides dedicated creative space for aspiring artists to learn and grow. Combined with the guidance of passionate and knowledgeable faculty, our students receive a rigorous and contemporary visual arts education that inspires creativity and supports lifelong enrichment. I am proud to serve the students and faculty of this department.
The Department of Art + Design is committed to helping students develop strong creative and professional foundations. Our programs emphasize visual awareness, self discipline, thoughtful analysis of the creative process, an understanding of historical context, and a commitment to craftsmanship. Through carefully structured degree paths, students gain meaningful opportunities for both personal growth and professional preparation.
The department offers both Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees in art. BFA options include art education, graphic design, and studio art with either a 2D or 3D emphasis. BA options include art history, graphic design, and studio art with a 2D or 3D emphasis. In addition, we offer a Bachelor of Science degree in fashion merchandising. Students may also pursue minors in art history, fashion merchandising, graphic design, and studio art.
