You may order tax return transcripts online, by phone or by mail.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE IRS DATA RETRIEVAL TOOL
Here are the instructions for linking tax information into your FAFSA by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
It is VERY HELPFUL to have the first page of your US 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ on hand when you begin this process.
- Go to , click 鈥淪tart Here鈥 and log in using the student鈥檚 FSA ID
- Click 鈥Make FAFSA Corrections鈥 and create a Save Key
- Choose 鈥Making corrections to a processed FAFSA鈥
- Click on the 鈥Financial Information鈥 tab
- For the question 鈥淗ave your parents completed their IRS income tax return鈥 choose 鈥淎lready Completed鈥
- Answer the questions in the pop-up box. If all questions are answered 鈥No鈥 you are eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
- Select answer to 鈥渨hich parent are you,鈥 enter parent鈥檚 FSA ID and click 鈥Link to IRS,鈥
- Click 鈥OK鈥 to 鈥淟eaving FAFSA on the Web鈥
- Click 鈥OK鈥 to the pop-up 鈥淭his Gov鈥檛 System is for Authorized Use Only鈥
- Enter information requested (Filing Status, Address, etc.) and click 鈥淪ubmit鈥 (all information must match IRS records)
- Check 鈥Transfer my tax information into the FAFSA鈥 on the left of the page and click 鈥Transfer Now鈥 on the right
- Page
- You will be directed back to the FAFSA webpage. At the 鈥List of Changes鈥, review, then scroll to bottom and click 鈥Next鈥.
- Click 鈥Sign and Submit鈥 and follow instructions to submit the changes
- You will receive a confirmation number and a confirmation email.
* Independent students will not need to submit parent information, but will follow the same steps for entering their own tax information.
* Do not make any adjustments to the tax information once it has been transferred to the FAFSA. If any information is incorrect, please contact the Office of Financial Aid.
