  • STUDENT INSURANCE WAIVER

Student Insurance provides the student worldwide protection, 24 hours a day. The Plan has a $100 deductible per diagnosis and pays up to 70% of eligible expenses for physician and hospital expenses, lab and x-ray, surgery, ambulance transport, physical therapy, maternity expenses, mental health and substance abuse issues. The Student Insurance plan also covers prescriptions at the Health and Counseling Services center on campus.

Unlike an HMO or PPO, the Plan does not have a network, giving students a choice in their care and provides coverage for treatment the student receives while they are at home, at school, and wherever they may travel. When you have other insurance, the Plan coordinates with the primary carrier. Student Insurance is an economical way to reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket expenses when family health plans do not cover 100% of medical costs because of deductibles, co-payment amounts, limitations on specific benefits, and out-of-network penalties. The Student Insurance Plan complements the family health plan. Most students find it beneficial to carry both, particularly if the family plan has a deductible and/or coinsurance.

You can find more information about the Plan at or by contacting our office at (217) 581-5290. There are two short videos on the website that do a nice job of explaining all about the Plan.

The Summer 2026 Student Insurance fee will be automatically assessed to students enrolled in an on-campus program taking nine or more hours; graduate assistants under contract to the University; and international students enrolled in an on-campus program taking three or more hours.

Students wishing to waive the Student Insurance Plan must complete the Waiver Form available in their PAWS account, under the MyHealth tab. Student-athletes and members of the Cheer Team are not allowed to waive the Student Insurance. The deadline to waive coverage for the Summer 2026 semester is May 27, 2026.

Students who enroll for five or more hours for the Summer Term may obtain coverage by submitting the Summer 2026  Enrollment Form available in their PAWS account, under the MyHealth tab prior to 5/27/26. Coverage is effective upon receipt of the enrollment form.

  • EIU,聽Clear30聽join forces to create 鈥渁ccountability culture鈥 for recreational cannabis use

海角大神 has partnered with Clear30, a free app that helps monitor recreational cannabis use, create personal goals for moderation, and build a network of peer accountability for students interested in reducing or stopping casual consumption. April 1 marks the first day the app is freely available for use by EIU students with an active EIU email.
Assistant Director of EIU’s Health Education Resource Center (HERC) Matt Warner outlined how the app and its personalized program work: “Whether students are thinking about taking a 30-day break or just want to be more aware of their habits, Clear30 gives them private, flexible ways to do it,” Warner said. “The app will ask for some basic input and information about each student’s goals and provide a customized, easy-to-follow plan.”
Those ways include tracking daily progress with:
    • quick, convenient check-ins
    • setting goals that work for students without unnecessary or outside pressure
    • providing free, guided meditations for conquering potential cravings
    • joining online accountability groups with other students at EIU.
The app is available for free use to all EIU students who download it via Apple’s App Store or Google Play. To redeem access using their EIU email, students can visit .

  • April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). April is dedicated to raising awareness, supporting survivors, and promoting education about sexual violence and prevention. Sexual violence impacts people of all genders, backgrounds, and communities. In the United States, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime, and many survivors never report their experiences. Awareness, education, and community support are critical steps toward creating safer environments for everyone.

There are several ways you can help raise awareness this month:

    • Teal Day – Tuesday, April 7
Teal is the official color of sexual assault awareness and prevention. On Teal Day, wear teal to show support for survivors and to stand against sexual violence. Whether it’s a shirt, ribbon, or accessory, every visible show of support helps spark conversations.
    • Denim Day – Wednesday, April 29
Denim Day began after a controversial court ruling in Italy that overturned a rape conviction, claiming the victim’s tight jeans implied consent. In protest, people are encouraged to wear denim to stand in solidarity with survivors and challenge harmful myths about sexual violence. Denim Day is recognized worldwide as a statement against victim-blaming.

We encourage you to participate by wearing teal on Teal Day and denim on Denim Day. Take a photo, share why awareness matters to you, and tag @IVAT on Instagram to help spread the message. Selected posts may be featured on our page to help amplify awareness and show community support.

Be on the lookout for additional campus events hosted by members of the Interpersonal Violence Awareness Team (IVAT) throughout the month. We will be distributing teal ribbons at various tabling events across campus. If you would like a teal ribbon for yourself or your organization to show support for survivors, you can also contact IVAT at IVAT@eiu.edu.

    How to Support Survivors:

    • Listen and believe.

    • Respect their choices.

    • Educate yourself.

    • Share resources.

    • Speak up.
